Ever Wonder What Is My Body Shape? Here’s The Answer

To answer the question, what is my body shape, relies on two important factors. If you only look at one aspect, you're not seeing the whole picture, and you won't be able to fully understand how your body shape contributes to your style.

Do you ever find yourself asking, what is my body shape?

You may have heard about the different body types, but are you able to relate? When looking at an apple, can you easily say…wow, this totally looks like me! Or what about a banana? Is that more who you are?

To answer the question, what is my body shape, relies on two important factors. If you only look at one aspect, you're not seeing the whole picture, and you won't be able to fully understand how your body shape contributes to your style.

I’m a huge proponent of body awareness and knowing your shape, but I don’t believe the answer lies in a bowl of fruit. I also don’t think the tape measure shows the entire picture.

When I work with my clients, we 100% explore her body shape. Understanding this information is incredibly useful when it comes to refining a style. But women are complex creatures. Our bodies do not easily fall into one category. And that’s why it’s imperative to take a broader perspective when it comes to answering the question, what is my body shape.

The Numbers On The Tape Measure

The numbers on the tape measure don’t lie. When you wrap that thing around your hips you will see accurately how your hips convert into inches. This may be difficult to do as you may not want to see how your hips translate in the metric system. But having this information (in relation to the measurement of your waist and bust) is useful when it comes to buying clothes. When you know where you stand (literally, where your body stands in space) you can figure out the right sizes and silhouettes that’ll make you look your best.

But the numbers on the tape measure are only one piece of the pie when it comes to answering what is my body shape.

To answer the question, what is my body shape, relies on two important factors. If you only look at one aspect, you're not seeing the whole picture, and you won't be able to fully understand how your body shape contributes to your style.

    The Reflection In The Mirror

Another factor to consider when determining your shape is how you see yourself. This is where a lot of women run into issues, myself included. I spent my entire 20s seeing a completely different body from the one I actually had. I was thin, but I only saw a flabby middle that created muffin top on my low rise jeans. (Looking back, it’s clear that the low rise jeans were the problem!) This informed the way I dressed as I was always self conscious about my stomach and tried to cover it up. But because I only saw the big belly when I looked in the mirror, I wasn’t seeing my shape accurately. To truly understand your body shape you’ve got to see the whole picture…including your good parts!

    All Shapes Are Beautiful

If you tend to carry weight in your middle, you may only see extra weight when you look in the mirror. But the reality is, the round middle isn’t the only aspect of your shape. There’s got to be something beautiful about your body. In order to truly flatter your figure you must highlight these areas.

I challenge you to look in the mirror and see your shape honestly. Yes, notice your wide hips, but also look at the rest of your body and find areas you like. This is essential in creating a balanced look.

i want to accentuate my face and smile….I have the bold lipstick but one of my earring holes closed because of an infection. Clip-ons usually get lost so I wear chokers…is that fine?
