Embody Your Style To Dress Better

Embodied style to dress better is about choosing garments that fit and flatter your body and life.Sometimes a fit may not be perfect, but it's still right for you because you love how it makes you look and feel.

Welcome back to the Embody Your Style series! Today I’m talking about embodied style to dress better.

Last week I posted on embodied style for self acceptance. The week before, I introduced the series by talking about embodied style for style confidence because too many women have distorted views of how they look. Both these steps are integral in embodying your style to look and feel 100% your best.

Now, let’s get into the nitty gritty of dressing your body to fit and flatter who you are now.

Embody Your Style To Express Your Best Self

One thing to remember, a style goal isn’t about following a set a rules that determine what you can and can’t wear. (You’re a pear so you must wear A-line!) A style goal is about being true to yourself. Sometimes a fit may not be perfect, but it’s still right for you because you love how it makes you look and feel.

Also, don’t get caught up on your height and weight. Think more about your shape and proportions, and how the weight is distributed within your body. Notice which areas you want to feature, and what would you rather downplay. Are you wearing the silhouettes and styles that suit you best? Everybody’s ideal looks different so figure out how you want to look then accentuate those proportions. Balance is key.

    Flatter Your Figure Basics

If you are heavier on the bottom with smaller shoulders, think about adding more volume up top with bold colors, sleeve embellishments, ruffles, cowl necks or any detail that draws attention upward.

If you carry most of your weight in the center and bust area with smaller hips, accentuate your limbs by wearing shorter hemlines and sleeveless shirts.

You can lengthen the look of your legs by wearing a high waist pant, or tucking your blouse into your bottom.

If your shoulders are prominent and your hips are smaller, then emphasize your lower body with peplums, wide leg pants, or flared skirts.

Use Your Styling Tricks To Create Your Best Look

Think about where you want someone’s eye to go, and play up that area with a statement detail or color. Same goes with directing people to not pay attention to certain areas…downplay that area with a darker color then highlight the other area in a bright.

Everybody has fit challenges and they’re all unique. While it may seem that a super model like Giselle is perfect and never has trouble dressing herself, this may not be the case! She may find hems are always too short, and the shoulders are too tight. We all must deal with our unique challenges and learn how to work with them to look how we want.
