The (HE)ART Of Your Best Style (& How To Have It!)

Your best style isn't about the clothes you wear, it's how you wear them, and the way you move through your life. These stylist tips will explain how.

Although your best style may feel like some nebulous thing that’s hard to pin down, it’s actually just the combination of a few key elements. Think about the women you know (either personally or from the media) who consistently show up and make you take notice. It’s usually not only about the clothes they wear. It’s how they wear it. And this know-how of head-turning style relies on three things that when brought together seamlessly, create your best style.

Here’s How To Have Your Best Style

Your best style isn't about the clothes you wear, it's how you wear them, and the way you move through your life. These stylist tips will explain how.

    KNOW IT

This is about self awareness. By knowing who you are, you’re better equipped to state yourself stylistically. On one level, it’s knowing your preferences – what you love and what you dislike- which shape your taste. But on a deeper level, it’s about knowing what makes you feel good, and how to access that. Your style is the outer reflection of the inner so the more you are in touch with how you want to be, the easier it is to dress for that.

My favorite ways to KNOW IT:

    • meditation
    • journal writing
    • walking

    OWN IT

This is about body confidence. Once we feel comfortable in our skin, we can move through life with ease. And in order to do this, we must go beyond accepting our bodies to taking pride in what our bodies enable us to do. Whether it’s feeling strong, or sexy, your body confidence carries over into all aspects of your life, and will set the foundation for how you wear your clothes.

This is what helps me OWN IT:

    • exercise
    • eating well
    • sleeping enough

    LIVE IT

This is about being you. Forget the rules and what anyone has ever said about how you should look. Authenticity is the way to go when it comes to creating style. So when putting together your looks, don’t overthink it. Go for the feel – what feels like you and conveys who you are. This is what adds the unexpected to your best style, and makes it uniquely yours.

    Here’s how I LIVE IT:

    • rocking out to Radiohead on the stationary bike
    • writing my blog
    • mixing patterns and wearing bold colors

So as you see, the heart of style goes beyond the clothes we wear. It’s who we are, and how we move through life. With self awareness, confidence and authenticity, you can turn any old wardrobe into one that speaks your best style.

How would you describe your best style?

    1. Thanks for the great tips and steps to find my best style! I also love bold colors but would like to experiment with mixing patterns more.

    2. Love this inside-out approach to styling, Elysha. Know it. Own it. Live it.
While they make sense and sound intuitive, they are not. At least not for me.

For instance I would not have passed the first thing, Know it.
I am not very in touch with how I want to be fashionably speaking.
But that is not to say that I couldn’t reflect on it more.

      Thanks for sharing.

    3. Hi Terry, A good way to begin knowing your style is to simply take note of what you like and don’t like…start to create an opinion and point of view around how you want to look. Then you can start to formulate what you want to say.

    4. I love your blog. I’m going to follow you now.
I just started an experiment to try to really figure out my personal style so this is a great time to find your blog. I can tell I’m going to get great ideas from you.

    5. Hi Karen, that’s so cool you started an experiment to try and figure out your personal style. Do you blog about this experiment? I’m going to follow you too. Thanks!
