Real style starts on the inside.
It’s a culmination of self care that salutes all aspects of your being. Whether it’s engaging in an assortment of mindfulness practices to following a healthy program in diet and lifestyle — our appearance is a reflection of what’s going on inside.

One part of my self care program is getting facials. I’ve seen a huge difference in my skin based on the valuable recommendations from my facialist, Jackie. She’s a wealth of knowledge on good skincare, and her philosophy goes beyond an arsenal of great products– it’s beauty from the inside out.

Jackie shared some of the secrets to her whole-living approach to beautiful skin. Here’s what she had to say.

    1.  What is the most important thing we can do to take care of our skin?

Sunscreen every day!  No matter what the weather is doing. Also, get full body checks from a Dermatoligist once a year –regardless of your ethnic group — to screen for skin cancer. Prevention is key!

    2.  How does juicing benefit the skin?

The benefits of juicing are endless for the skin since the skin is the largest organ of the body. It goes without saying everything should be organic, and mostly (or all) vegetables–it should be as green as possible. If you can do it first thing in the morning it will kick start your day. It is extremely detoxifying as it gives your skin a turbo boost of vitamins and minerals.Your skin tone will look more even, more alive and you will feel very energetic.

    3. Any particular fruit or veggie combo (of juice) that you can suggest for healthy skin?

The juice I like to make is as follows:
Celery, parley, kale, beets, ginger and a lemon. Or spinach, kale, celery and ginger.

    4.  How has meditation made a difference in your life? Do you think it plays a role in healthy skin?

Where do I begin? Meditation is a vacation for the brain every time you practice it. It is by far one of the best things you can do for yourself as it is so calming– what a stress release!

    5. What kinds of ingredients in products do you think are best?

I usually pick products for their active ingredients, and never for their overpriced packaging and hype.

    6. What would you recommend as a good product regime?

I like retinol for the evening as a resurfacer, and vitamin C for the day time as it is an antioxidant to repair, protect and prevent damage and aging. I also like to use glycolic as a cleanser (by Allergen) as it’s always great to keep my skin blemish free.
