Networking does not come natural to me.
I realize it’s an essential part of my freelance career, and DH says I should be doing more of it. But this whole notion of putting myself out there, business card in hand, is so not me. I’m just not down with that kind of hustle.
Though when my client kindred spirit Helen told me she was hosting a party, I knew I had to go.
If networking events are all about mingling and making an impression in conversation — Helen’s party was about making your move on the dance floor.
Everyone got to see who was who. Not based on what they do. But on what they showed in their dance.
It was a lively bunch so clearly excited to be in the moment. True colors were revealed as energy was set free on the dance floor. In other words, this group was getting groovy to the beat! So much better than forcing out an inauthentic version of ourselves, in hopes of making a connection.
It was a hustle that I could definitely handle.
When are you most comfortable putting yourself out there?
I’m glad to read that you enjoyed your coming out dance.
I’m an introvert by nature, and somewhat of a private person so putting myself out there in terms of self promotion or networking isn’t really comfortable.
I prefer to simply put my work and creativity out there. When I have something of value to do or give to others, whether it be via employment or creativity, I put it out there.
Me? I’m interesting to and loved by a few. But my talents, I think, are appreciated.
To be recognized and appreciated for your talent is truly an amazing thing. And to be aware of this recognition and appreciation is even better. Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
As your kindred spirit, I think you know what moves me after attending the special dancing event… I love to dance and smile and throw a good party and spread good vibes wherever and whenever possible. Thanks for the fabulous review… adore you…
Thank You Helen! We must dance together again soon!, xo
Your decisions were made with careful consideration. Everyone walks the path of self discovery. Everyone has talent. Each decides what is revealed.
This is so true, Eddie. And I love that you made it sound so simple. Thank you
