Self Expression Through Clothes

Downtown NYC—especially Chelsea—just came alive with celebration for the Pride parade. With all the chaos in the world, it feels important to gather and celebrate what we believe in.

My favorite part of this parade is the incredible self-expression on display.

    You may be thinking:

Self-expression out there for everyone to see? Why show something so personal?

The simple answer is: when you’re truly comfortable being yourself, your style—how you show up, how you dress—gets bigger, bolder, maybe even dramatic.

    It becomes your full expression.

And when that happens, you want to share it.

Because you know this inspires others.

YOU become a beacon for them to be MORE of who they are.

And that, to me, is worth celebrating.

(If you want to hear me talk more about this and why your style truly matters, watch my video 👇)

I actually just watched RuPaul talk about authenticity and self-expression. Two things he shared really landed with me:

    1. He spent a lot of time talking about the inner work. Strengthening who you are inside. This shows that full self-expression is an inside job. It starts with having clarity and conviction about all parts of yourself.

    2. He reminded me it’s not so serious. This aligns so well with how I always say, “There’s always another opportunity to change your clothes.” So, if your self-expression isn’t fun, it’s probably too serious

Because our self-expression, in its fullest, most beautiful form, is simply an expression of our soul.

So the practice – if you want more of your full expression – is to do the things that bring this out.

For me, that’s yoga, writing, biking, and yes — playing around with my wardrobe. These are what ground me and connect me to myself so I can be more in my full expression.

    What about you?

What brings you deeper into yourself and how are you expressing that?
