After posting Time To Move On From Your Skinnies, many friends and clients came to me asking – NOW WHAT?
Well, I’ve been working the wide leg trousers trend. Not only is this silhouette everywhere this season, it’s totally flattering when worn right.
Here are some suggestions on how to wear wide leg pants.
An ankle length trouser -like this pair – is a nice option for short girls (??). Balance the proportion with a full sleeve top that stops right at the waist, like this. Cropped tops, in general, are always a good idea with wide leg pants.
Take a page from menswear by bringing in a soft, yet structured blazer to a flow-y wide leg pant. Add in a simple tee to turn up the cool and casual vibe.
A high waisted, wide leg trouser, like this pair, is a great way to elongate your torso. Pick a pretty blouse – like this – then tuck it in to keep the tailored take on the look.
Off the shoulder blouses are allover this season. I especially love the elastic gathering at the waist of this top to neutralize the width of these pants.
A few more things to consider with wide leg pants:
- Platforms pair well with this style. Unless you’re tall, always wear heels.
- You don’t have to tuck in your top, but keep in mind that too much slouch – on top and bottom- may leave you looking shapeless. Try a half tuck (only the front tucks while the back stays out). If you do a full tuck then make sure to let some skin show either with a sleeveless shirt, deep v-neck or cropped pants.
- If opting for a cropped version, remember to have the hem around the ankle. Once you start cropping around the knee or shin – it becomes a culotte, and I am not advocating that anyone goes this route. (Unless you’re a 5’10” supermodel.)

What’s cool about them is that even older gals can wear them.
That’s right!
YAY! That skinny jean look was so discriminatory!
