Take TV Fashion And Make Your Own Outfits

I love when the tv fashion in a show becomes another character to obsess over. Before it was Shiv from Succession. Then Sutton and Kat from The Bold Type. Now it’s Beth from The Queen’s Gambit. Seeing her style evolve through the series was like eating a 7 course meal with dishes to die for!

While I LOVED her outfits, I’d never want to copy them head to toe. That never works. It’s much better to take inspiration from the outfits. Then interpret them for yourself.

Click play to watch the video where I show how I took 3 outfits from tv fashion and made them my own.

And read on to see how I took inspiration from Beth’s look so you can do it yourself!

If you love an outfit you see on someone else, here’s 3 steps to make it yours.

    1. See The Outfit Differently

Don’t look at the outfit as a whole. Instead break it into the style elements that make up the outfit. Think of the outfit as the final dish, and the style elements are the ingredients that create the final dish. Ask yourself which style elements you love.

In the above outfit, I love the following style elements:

    • Monochrome color palette
    • Mandarin collar
    • Slim silhouette
    • Soft hat
    • White boots
    • White gloves

    2. Choose Your Top Picks

After determining which style elements you love, go back and pick your top two or three.

Still working with the outfit above, I’d choose the monochrome color palette, the slim silhouette and the soft hat.

    3. Make Your Own TV Fashion Look

Once you’ve got your top style elements, put them together into your own outfit.

Notice how this doesn’t look exactly like the tv fashion on Beth. That outfit wouldn’t work on me…that’s her style. I’ve got my own style to create. Her outfit inspired me so I reinterpreted my favorite elements and made my own outfit.
