If you’re one of the people who doesn’t do yoga because it seems like it’s not a real workout then this next review of a yoga strengthening class is for you.
It’s with Yoga With Adriene on her hugely popular Youtube channel.
As someone who takes a lot of yoga classes, I was excited to finally checkout Adriene. She has such a huge collection of videos to choose from ranging from yoga for the neck and shoulder relief to yoga for weight loss, yoga for loneliness and much more. I went with her yoga for the core and booty because I wanted to see how she incorporates a yogic perspective to the workout.
She brings in conventional glute exercises and (lots of) squats which aren’t usually included in a yoga sequence, but by constantly talking about yogic things, like the breath and softening your body while you exert the effort, the class definitely feels like yoga. It’s definitely not a lose-your-breath type of workout, it does make for a nice toning series which would go well after some cardio. And at 30 minutes long, you don’t really have time to get bored with the movements especially since Adriene adds in a nice commentary with helpful insights to the routine.
So while yoga may not have the high impact value of a HIIT class or bootcamp, it certainly can work your muscles in a dynamic way to not only increase flexibility, but also add strength. This yoga strengthening class is a great way to get your workout in while still connecting the mind and body.

Yoga with Adriene is one of my favorites. I usually get a lot out of Adriene’s instructions. Very approachable. And your review is spot on, Elysha.
Thanks, Terry. I agree- she’s a great instructor.
