While I wouldn’t call myself a “Spirit Junkie”, the title of Gabrielle Bernstein’s earlier book which became the name for her legion of followers, I do appreciate a solid spiritual text. The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear To Faith, is 100% a spiritual book.
Gabby (this is how she refers to herself) has mastered the ability of transcribing sacred principles into modern day syntax. Her devotional journey began as A Course in Miracles student which has become the foundation for much of her work, along with kundalini yoga (she’s both a student and teacher of this practice). Most of her fans are 20, maybe 30 something, seekers, and that’s who this book seems geared towards. Despite the fact that I don’t fit into her target market, I still found value in her words.
The book is about tuning into God; though there is no precept of religion. To keep the language from being too preachy, the word God is exchanged for the Universe. It’s about getting into the flow to find everlasting happiness.
Being in union with the energy of the Universe is like an awesome dance where you trust your partner so much that you just surrender to the beat of the music. When you begin to dance with the energy of the Universe, your life flows naturally, incredible synchronicity presents itself, creative solutions abound, and you experience freedom.
The chapters are broken down into Universal Lessons such as The Universe Will Always Conspire To lead You Toward Solutions Of The Highest Good When You Open Up To Receive Them and Whenever We Forget Our Peaceful Nature We Can Ask The Universe To Remind Us Of What Is Real. There are also written exercises, prayers and meditations – many from kundalini – making this book a practice in itself.
Addressing several causes of suffering, she recounts personal stories which evolve into her own lessons. To combat judgement, acknowledge it’s a reflection of what you judge in yourself then let it go. To the notion there isn’t enough time, live in the present. And to those times when it feels like everything is going wrong, she sees these as interventions by The Universe to redirect our path.
Even situations that appear to be obstacles are actually opportunities – detours in the right direction.
It’s an uplifting read. I’d go through a few pages before falling asleep, and would wake up with a good vibe. Her positive message sets the foundation for hopeful living. But what I love most about this book is its mission of bettering the individual who can then better the world.
While I want all my readers to learn how to manifest their desires, thrive in their careers, and enjoy wildly incredible relationships, what I want most form you is to be the light.
Learning how to be the light, and live under the certainty of your true path – this is the work. Stay the path and help others on theirs.
