With Fashion Month going strong, it’s prime time to talk about the latest trends.

One of the questions I was asked on instagram was, how do stylists — who are paid to shop and dress women — break down the trends, and apply them to their own style?

Well, first off — my approach to styling is not super trend driven. While my clients and I like to feel current and modern with what we wear, we also understand that fitting into fashion’s latest isn’t always the most authentic expression. I believe that it’s better to have a strong personal style, and if the trends can fit around what’s right for you, then by all means wear them!

That said, trends can be a fun way to update your look each season.

So as a stylist, how do I keep up with trends?

The same way you can!

Finding Fashion’s Latest Trends

I check out Vogue Runway to see the latest collections which contains a comprehensive view of all the designers.

Then I go into the stores. And once you enter a trendy store like Zara, you will be faced with every single trend! You’ll know exactly what’s in season.

Lastly, I pay attention to what the women on the streets of New York City are wearing. It’s an interesting bunch who are always inspiring. (Click here to discover if your skinny jeans are out of fashion.)
