No matter how hot it gets, there are some styles I will never wear. Like the cut-offs that show the front pockets below the hem. I’m petite so I also don’t like to wear a long bermuda style as it tends to swallow up my size. I usually gravitate towards a chino, but I like to have it in a print, or bold color for a little twist. I’m also a big fan of making my own shorts. I simply cut the legs off on a pair of pants that are either distressing beyond repair, or they’re just not quite my taste anymore. Some of my favorite shorts have come this way.
It’s true that there are days I simply throw on a tee with my shorts. But these are the days I’m usually not leaving my house. When I head out, I prefer a long sleeve blouse. And if it’s not too hot, a blazer or jacket can be a really nice touch to compliment the look.
To style your shorts in a sophisticated way, first think about the fabric. While denim and cotton are great, you could go for something dressier, like silk, to refine your look. Also pair it with a more elegant top. As mentioned above, I love wearing long sleeves with shorts. How about a beautiful silk blouse to go with yours? Lastly, don’t forget your shoes! Ankle boots can be cute. And so could wedge sandals. Any type of metallic will add extra shine, and also help elevate your look.
